Getting to Zermatt by train

Trains to Zermatt from Airports or other Swiss cities

You can easily book tickets from all Swiss stations directly to Zermatt. No matter where you start your journey, you will have to change at Visp. From here you will take the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn service to Zermatt.

The Swiss transport system (SBB) is efficient and most tiny villages are connected to the national network by the PostBus.

While it is sometimes possible to buy your rail ticket in advance, Swiss trains are rarely overcrowded so it’s easy to buy your ticket directly from the Airport train station just before you travel.

However, if you are planning a very specific train journey, for example the Glacier Express, you will need to book in advance.

Switzerland is generally very safe – however, it is always wise to be vigilant and watch your luggage when changing trains. SBB provides a Lost & Found luggage service.

Assisted travel

Assisted travel options for passengers who are disabled, have wheelchairs or reduced mobility. Simply inform SBB staff before you travel, they are always happy to help.
